Eng. Yousif Ahmed Al Ali to ‘Albayan’: Consumption Reduction Rates of 12% and 6% in Electricity and Water Respectively in 2022

24 Apr 2023

According to Eng. Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, the CEO of Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE), the company has reported a significant reduction in water consumption by 6% and electricity consumption by 12% in 2022, compared to the rates recorded in 2021.

Al Ali emphasized that the company's commitment to using the latest production and operation technologies and innovations has contributed to achieving consumption conservation goals, minimizing waste, and preserving resources. The company has implemented advanced technologies, such as Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) in pressure systems and electromagnetic valves to control water levels in tanks, resulting in reduced energy consumption and prevention of waste. Additionally, the company is using energy recovery technology through XP devices and replacing old networks with new ones made of more efficient materials to minimize technical losses.

On a societal level, EtihadWE has launched several initiatives and awareness campaigns to promote a culture of consumption reduction, including the Emirates Award for Conservation, "Your Home. Our Care," and "We Conserve for Good." These initiatives have targeted specific groups in the community, including students and housewives, and were implemented in all regions through workshops, lectures, and awareness-raising media messages on various communication channels and social media.

Al Ali stated that the company's efforts to promote a culture of consumption reduction are part of the UAE's general efforts in this field and the "National Water and Energy Demand Management Program." These efforts have led to a positive movement towards this culture in the community, as indicated by some figures and indicators, both at the company level and at the national level as a whole. He emphasized the importance of unifying national efforts in the field of conservation, whether in terms of reducing consumption and improving efficiency or through awareness-raising plans aimed at instilling this culture in the community. This is to enhance the country's leadership on a global level in this field and achieve the leadership's vision of preserving resources and building a sustainable economy.
