EtihadWE's Naqaa Desalination Plant Ensures Accurate Distribution of Water Supplies

26 Apr 2023

Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) CEO, Eng. Yousuf Ahmed Al Ali, has announced that the construction of the new water desalination plant in Umm Al Quwain “Naqaa” has been completed in all phases and began operating at full production capacity of 150 million gallons per day in August 2022.

According to Al Ali, this plant is one of the most important strategic projects that reflects the leadership's vision of achieving water security in the UAE. It plays a significant role in sustaining fresh water supplies and reducing the water scarcity index.

"The production of the plant is subject to an accurate distribution program that includes all areas where the company provides its services," said Al Ali. "The distribution mechanism depends on several factors that determine the quantity allocated to each area, such as the current demand and the results of studies and analysis of future water demand forecasts."

The water produced by the plant is managed through an integrated system that starts from the main pumping stations, passing through transmission lines, to storage centers, and from there to distribution networks, reaching the end consumer. The management of this entire system is carried out through flow and pressure control systems.

Al Ali stressed the company's commitment to applying safe standard procedures to ensure the quality of the water distributed to consumers, in accordance with the specifications and standards of drinking water issued by the World Health Organization (WHO). This includes periodic sterilization of lines and tanks, as well as periodic and random measurement tests.
