The CEO of Etihad Water and Electricity Company (EtihadWE), Eng. Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, expressed unwavering support for promoting the adoption of electric vehicles in the UAE. He mentioned that the company recently signed an MoU with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to back the ambitious national project, "Global Market for Electric Vehicles."

    As a primary provider of water and electricity services in the UAE, EtihadWE takes on the responsibility of establishing electric charging stations throughout all areas it serves. Moreover, the company is dedicated to assisting other organizations in setting up and managing charging stations by supplying the necessary electrical energy. With 36 charging stations currently in operation, EtihadWE has plans to significantly expand this number in the next two years, with an expected five-fold increase in the regions it serves.

    Al Ali emphasized the UAE’s ambitious sustainability goals, targeting carbon neutrality by 2050. To achieve these objectives, a key approach is to transition all government vehicles to electric ones by 2035.

     Regarding essential services provided to the public, the CEO emphasized EtihadWE’s continuous cooperation with relevant authorities in Abu Dhabi. The company plays a crucial role in the government system, working on implementing the National Water and Energy Demand Management Program. Its electrical energy is sourced from TAQA, a blend of nuclear, solar, and natural gas-based energy sources.

    Al Ali highlighted EtihadWE's steadfast commitment to strategic partnerships with the private sector. These collaborations are designed to support investments and address sustainable development challenges. The company has successfully attracted leading water desalination technology operators and developers, such as the “Naqaa” desalination plant, boasting a production capacity of 150 million gallons per day and representing a significant investment exceeding two billion dirhams under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model.

    Touching upon "COP 28," the CEO stressed the conference's significance in spotlighting the UAE’s efforts to promote sustainability and clean energy solutions not only on a national but also on regional and global scales. Al Ali reaffirmed EtihadWE's dedication to pursuing projects that bolster the UAE's sustainability endeavors through the green economy approach, with a specific focus on water, energy, and environmental sectors.
