28 Sep 2023

Etihad Water and Electricity Company (EtihadWE) and Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWGA) celebrated the launch of the second phase of their strategic water connection project. Through this phase, the connection point at Hamda Pumping Station will receive approximately 24 million gallons of desalinated drinking water daily. The event was attended by Engineer Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of Etihad Water and Electricity Company, and H.E. Saeed Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority, accompanied by Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al Shamsi, the Authority's Director General, and several senior officials from both entities.

Engineer Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, CEO of EtihadWE, emphasized that the strategic water connection project with SEWGA embodies the leadership's vision for institutional integration in the water sector. It supports national efforts to achieve water sustainability and enhance water supply management in the UAE. Moreover, it undoubtedly contributes to the realization of the UAE's Water Security Strategy 2036, unveiled by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure years ago. This strategy includes several network connection points among institutions operating in the sector at the national level to enhance the ability to address emergencies and reduce their potential impact on the economy and society.

H.E. Saeed Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chairman of SEWGA, stated that the launch of the second phase of the strategic water connection between EtihadWE and SEWGA is a culmination of ongoing efforts in the field of water connection and the implementation of the recommendations of the Water Security Strategy. This project will contribute to providing the necessary water quantities for expansion projects in various regions of Sharjah, further strengthening efforts aimed at securing the needs of development and growth plans.
