Engineer Sharif Al Olama, the Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs in the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, affirmed that the ministry aims for the comprehensive development of the electric vehicle infrastructure. This goal will be achieved through partnerships and collaboration with strategic entities, notably including Etihad Water and Electricity Company (EtihadWE). As part of this collaboration, the plan is to establish and install at least 10,000 charging stations by 2030, alongside the implementation of essential and supportive services, such as a platform and a digital application. This initiative aims to contribute to the creation of an integrated national network in this sector, facilitating a smooth transition to a sustainable transportation system.
In a statement published by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) yesterday, he mentioned that the ministry is set to launch a comprehensive national hydrogen strategy in 2025. This strategy encompasses ten strategic pillars and aligns with the principles of the low-carbon hydrogen policy recently introduced by the Supreme Council for Financial and Economic Affairs (SCFEA), the authority responsible for setting public policies and approving governing strategies for financial, investment, economic, petroleum, and natural resources affairs in Abu Dhabi.
It is noteworthy that Abu Dhabi's policy for low-carbon hydrogen includes defining the structure of the low-carbon hydrogen production industry, fostering collaboration between the hydrogen sector and the electricity and natural gas sectors, and providing the necessary flexibility for relevant sectors. Additionally, the policy establishes technical standards for safety and consumer protection.
This policy also includes a systematic structure for the low-carbon hydrogen industry, focusing on the establishment of hydrogen oases and clean electricity complexes to attract investments and enhance operational efficiency. Based on this policy, these oases will become hubs for hydrogen-related activities, managed through a clear and comprehensive governmental framework, supporting low-carbon hydrogen production and sustainable industries associated with it.
