  • Al Ghail Center Is Integral to Managing the Water Sector Under the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036

Engineer Yousif Ahmed Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Water and Electricity Company (EtihadWE), inaugurated the Sharisha Main Substation in Ras Al Khaimah, emphasizing its significance as a pivotal project in enhancing the infrastructure of the electric power sector in the emirate. Prior to the official launch of the project, aligning with the company's strategic plans for establishing a sustainable system for water transportation and distribution in the northern and central regions, Engineer Yousif Ahmed Al Ali inspected the Al Ghail Water Storage, Pumping, and Distribution Center.

Al Ali stated that the Sharisha Main Substation operates at a voltage of 132/33/11 kV, with a capacity of 270 megavolt-amperes. It is one of the new power stations being implemented by the company in Ras Al Khaimah. He emphasized that the project, commenced at the end of the first quarter of 2021 with a total investment of AED 181 million, includes the cost of connecting the station to the Nakheel Power Station to ensure the continuity and efficiency of the distributed power.

The CEO of EtihadWE explained that the new station will serve the Al Sharisha area, as well as the adjacent industrial and commercial zones. It will alleviate the loads on existing stations, with Etihad Water and Electricity Company carefully considering the annual growth rate and increasing demand for electricity in the serviced areas. This approach involves expanding the network while adhering to a strategic focus on efficiency, environmental protection, and achieving the goals of climate neutrality, which are fundamental pillars of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050.

During his visit to the Al Ghail Water Storage Center in Ras Al Khaimah, prior to the official launch of the recently completed project, Al Ali highlighted that the center is part of an integrated system for managing the water sector under the umbrella of the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036. It falls within the company's projects to increase water storage capacity and distribution range in the regions it serves.

He further clarified that the project contributes to securing current and future water needs in both the northern and central regions, including the water requirements of wheat farms and cattle projects. This is achieved through a strategic connection with the Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWGA) on one side and similar connections with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in Masfout and Al Madam regions on the other side. These strategic connections involve coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, aiming to ensure the sustainability and continuity of water access at the national level under both normal and emergency conditions.

Al Ali noted that the project includes water transmission lines of various diameters from the Al Khuraijah Storage Center towards the Al Ghail Storage Center, paving the way for water distribution through multiple routes in the central and northern regions. These regions include Dhaid, Maliha, Al Madam, Al Faw, Wushah, Suhaila, Zubeida, Hamda in Sharjah, Shawka, Kedra, Al Ghail, Adhen, Al Manaei, Wadi Al Qor, Al Huwailat, Isfini, Wadi Mamdouh in Ras Al Khaimah, and Al Manamah, Masfout, Al Naseem, and Muzeira in Ajman, as well as areas in Fujairah such as Al Haniya, Thoban, Siji, Murbad, and Masafi.

Al Ali pointed out that the project includes two water tanks with a total capacity of 20 million gallons, along with a pumping station equipped with multiple control, sterilization, and quality adjustment systems. He affirmed the company's continuous commitment to developing a water supply system that ensures appropriate storage and distribution capacities in various conditions, supporting a stable and sustainable national economy.
